Sea Salt Bath Soak
Once a luxury only available at spas the sea salt bath is now something that anyone can do at home. The therapeutic effects of a good soak in a sea salt bath is now enjoyed by thousands of people in the privacy of their own homes.
This practice goes back to at least ancient Egypt, when Cleopatra exercised her power to gain control over the Dead Sea so that her people could have exclusive rights to the minerals contained in that precious sea’s salt. A good sea salt for use in a relaxing an invigorating bath, the salt from the Dead Sea contains much more than just sodium chloride, in fact in has much less than normal sea salt and instead contains higher levels of magnesium, potassium, calcium chloride and more bromides. These minerals are what is believed to give the salt from the Dead Sea its healing properties.
And not just the Egyptians knew about the healing power of a sea salt bath. No, the Romans had taken quite an interest in them as well. Ancient historian Flavius wrote that people who visited the Dead Sea would take home as much salt as they could carry.
A good soak in a sea salt bath can relieve psoriasis and eczema, ease sore muscles, arthritic pain, rheumatism and leave your skin feeling supple and renewed. It’s important to note that we are not talking about ordinary salt here which is mostly sodium chloride. Bathing is these salts can have detrimental effects like increased blood pressure. It will also dry your skin out, something you surely do not want from a therapeutic bath.
So it is very important that you choose the right salts for your sea salt bath, ones that contain more of the healing minerals and less of normal salt. Many people also add oils to their bath for both relaxing and restorative benefits. Lavender and tangerine are two favorites.
