Question by Eve: belly piercing!i need more help?
ok i’ve asked bout my belly piercing before! but i’ve changed what i was doing and now it kinda look worse! i was washing it with anti bacterial soap and hot water that’s what i was told at the tattoo shop….. i did that bout 5-7 times a day for near to 10 mins! i went on here and was told to use sea salt and to cut down on how many times and how long i wash it for! now i do it 3-4 times a day 3 and 5 mins only! i do it up to 4 times cause it really itches and the hot water kinda makes it better! i use soap fist for bout 3 mins and then sea salt for 5.. back when i 1st asked about it it was bumpy with lots of puss and really red,… now its hardly any puss still mildly red but its peeling all around! i thought that it was getting better when i didn’t see that much puss and the red and swelling went down but now the peeling is freaking me out! it’s peeling further and further! is this normal or is something wrong! my boyfriend said it had probably gotten infected and it went away with the sea salt and that the peeling is dead skin or idk what… is that true!

This happened to me a couple weeks ago.
It ended up getting really infected and red. I was constantly cleaning it because it was so infected, but after a couple more days of only cleaning it twice a day (plus using a damp tissue to clean off extra gunk every couple hours), it’s gotten better, and looks better than it ever has before.

Whoever told you to clean it less often was right. A new piercing should not be over-cleaned because it can cause irritation and dryness.

It’s your choice whether you want to use antibacterial soap or sea salt soaks but you should cut down to about 2-4 washes a day (depending on how much you sweat and how dirty the area gets, etc). Don’t scrub at the area too harshly and try not to use water that is too hot as this can irritate the piercing further. Warm water is good!

Avoid touching the piercing as much as possible and wear loose-fitting shirts for a while so that the fabric isn’t rubbing against it.

Good luck and let us know how it goes! =)
